I was a PhD student and I let myself fall for Professor X’s advances. He flattered me and I enjoyed it. Fortunately, it passes quickly and ends amicably. It’s only years later that I realise that statements like “That’s okay, I’m not your boss”, “I’d always give you a top grade” or “If you need money, I’ll lend you some” were absolutely not okay. Over the years, and almost exclusively drunk and often while crying, I have confided this experience to a total of three male colleagues. The first one said that he didn’t notice anything. The second one tells me he sleeps with his female students from time to time. The third colleague calls Professor X a pig. Professor X still gives me compliments about my appearance in the private chat on Zoom meetings.
